“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations (via larmoyante)

Bit of an involuntary day off Friday. Wound I’d gotten down in the Blasted Lands the night before was improving, but still not good enough for me to be able to head back to work, definitely not good enough that I would’ve been able to be out fighting if I’d felt that way inclined. Basically just spent the day hanging around the city, spending some time out and about with Gloria, catching up with a couple other people. Lorithas and Lassair to start off, although that was pretty brief. Basically just heard that he’s been feeling pretty tired from all the fighting down south, was getting a little rusty before he got into it. Headed home for a while, talked to this one worgen when I was out later on, Iriethia I think her name was. Again, not all that long of a conversation in the end. Had a slightly longer one with Areese when I met her a little later on in the evening. Sounds like she’s been getting on alright. Things’re still pretty quiet with work, not a whole lot that she mentioned she’d been up to. That company she’s with has apparently been talking a little about heading down south, getting involved in the Blasted Lands, but nothing’s come of that just yet. Means she hasn’t had any involvement yet herself. Doesn’t sound like she’d be entirely opposed to seeing a little action, but still, hopefully that’ll be by her choice if she does. Did talk to her about that knife she was talking about getting last we saw each other. Turns out she’s still interested. Had some ideas for exactly what it is she’s looking for, so I talked those over with her, ended up agreeing that I’d start getting some ideas together.
I was back at work yesterday, even if it wasn’t for all that long, so I was able to make a little bit of a start throwing something together. I was pretty lucky to be able to get my hands on some metal, amount that’s been going towards outfitting soldiers down south. Areese was wanting something pretty simple, sort of thing that wouldn’t necessarily stick out as a mage’s weapon. Sort of thing that’s not likely to draw to much attention, wind up getting stolen. Wound up thinking I might go for something a little similar to my knives. I mean, it’s a pretty practical sort of design. Works well for a variety of purposes, not too flashy. Make it out of arcane-infused steel and you’d have a decent melee weapon that’d function pretty well as a conduit for spellcasting as well. Hope she’ll like it. Anyway, that was stuff at the forges for the day. Headed home to pick up Gloria after I got done there, wandered through to Cathedral Square. Wound up running into that Iriethia woman from the day before. She mentioned she’s gotten herself a job as a bodyguard for this travelling priestess, but we didn’t end up talking all that long before this other woman got her attention. Friend of hers, I guess. Was also this one creepy-looking guy there who’d been hanging around a couple days before. Had a mask, just sort of stood there staring for a good while. Didn’t really say anything. Just whispered the word Duskwood as he was heading off. Don’t know what to make of that…gather he might’ve wanted me to follow him, but I don’t think anybody’d blame me for not being keen, circumstances being what they were.
Saw Danior and Anna while I was in the Square, but didn’t wind up talking to them. They were in a conversation with somebody else when I got there, so figured I shouldn’t interrupt. Did overhear a little of what they were saying, something about Anna being pregnant. Wonder if the kid’s Danior’s…guess that makes the most sense, but they’re sure as hell taking things quick if that’s the case, considering it wouldn’t be more than a couple months back now things started getting romantic between them. Seems a little hasty to me, to be honest, but guess it’s not my place to judge. Anyway, that’s enough of other people’s business. Main conversation I was involved with was with this draenei paladin. Can’t quite recall her name, but know she used to be in the Sigil. Fair while ago now, mind you. Last time I can recall seeing her was when they were down in Duskwood, maybe ‘round about the beginning of last year. Lot that’s gone on in that time, lot of people coming and going, fair few battles been fought. Filled her in on a little of that, much as I could in the time we had. Lassair wound up wandering along too. Fortuitous, considering she was one of the people the woman’d mentioned wanting to catch up with. Think that was pretty much everything of much note, at least before I headed home for dinner.
Wound up taking this trip down the Blasted Lands afterwards to drop off some medical supplies from the Sigil, few bits and pieces of equipment I’d been working on, miscellaneous odds and ends. Hadn’t been planning on getting involved in the fighting that night, but turned out I’d arrived just in time for this mission a fair few Sigil people were involved with. Idea was to take some footmen, some riflemen and the Sigil people, head down this valley, try take control of an Iron Horde tank at the far end. Getting there didn’t go all that badly, really. Saw Agnes get grazed by a bullet on one ankle, but didn’t see any other serious injuries. Didn’t run quite so smoothly once we were there. SI:7 guy who’d been leading the charge got control of the cannon just as this whole mess of reinforcements arrived. Few with shields, few shaman, few big ones with maces. Tore us apart. Lot of the footmen didn’t make it back to the camp, lot of Sigil seriously hurt. Wound up getting set on fire myself towards the end there. Burns weren’t too bad in the end, nothing a little salve won’t fix, but wasn’t much more than scraps left of my sweatshirt afterwards, shirt underneath was singed to the point it was pretty much beyond use. Pretty resounding defeat, really. Just lucky we didn’t lose anybody from the Sigil. Like I said, lot of people at camp afterwards with pretty serious injuries. Had to go back to help a few who were pretty slow getting out of there, for one reason or another. Know I say it a lot, but it’s a damn good thing we have the number of healers we do. Think that’s gonna be the main difference between us making it through this whole thing with a full roster and having a whole lot of graves to dig. Get the feeling there are gonna be a lot more battles before this war ends, a lot more defeats. How able we are to patch people up and get them back on their feet’s gonna be the difference between winning and losing.
